DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Children's Media is responsible for developing, producing and supervising WGBH multimedia productions for children and families. Children's Media is committed to creating and delivering the highest quality content on television that engages children and enriches their lives with new learning experiences while providing valuable resources for their parents, caregivers, and families.
JOB OVERVIEW
The Associate Story Editor for WOMBATS will work under the supervision of the Executive Story Editor in the development and editing of scripts, which are being written by a team of writers. This includes: working in collaboration with Executive Story Editor to communicate to writers the notes of many stakeholders to create a unified vision of the story world and characters and meet the series educational goals; communicating issues and deadlines to writers; and working with Coordinating Producer to manage the script schedule and problem-solve issues. The Story Editor will also be the writer of his or her own original stories, which will be edited by the Executive Story Editor.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Source new writers for Series, vetting them with Executive Producers, Senior Producer, and Executive Story Editor.
- Support writers in their onboarding process in writing for a GBH-produced, PBS KIDS series
- Work with Executive Story Editor in providing writers with notes on scripts, taking production company, broadcaster, advisor, and animation company notes and translating them for writers so that they are understandable and actionable
- Work with Executive Story Editor and Coordinating Producer to track writing schedule
- Work with Executive Story Editor to run Premise Meetings
- Write loglines in collaboration with Executive Story Editor
- Write five stories, edited by Executive Story Editor
SKILL SET
- Experience writing for animated preschool series
- Ability to manage writing schedule and juggle multiple priorities
- Must have proven organizational, editorial, and computer skills as well as the ability to work quickly and accurately under deadline.
- Must have excellent communication and problem-solving skills, as well as a keen attention to detail.
- Required computer experience includes: Proficiency with Final Draft Pro, Word, and Excel.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Associates degree or equivalent experience is required
