Responsibilities

GENERAL PURPOSE: Under general direction from the Assistant Director of Communications and the Front End Web Developer/Designer and with latitude for independent judgment and initiative, the Web Developer will be responsible for web development at the School of Nursing, ensuring high-performance and accessibility for the son.rochester.edu website and related sites.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Work closely with Front End Web Developer/Designer to drive online usage and increase user satisfaction through clear and engaging Content Design, User Interface, and User Experience for educational, clinical and research related pages. Directly conducts and supports management on website development and programming in Cascade with a focus on accessibility and optimizing content management for end users. Design, develop, test, and implement interactive multimedia web-based resources through the use of various scripting/programming languages, and streaming technologies (HTML5, CSS3, SASS, JavaScript, JQuery, Velocity, XML, XSLT). Provide support to Front End Web Developer/Designer and collaborate with back-end roles. Provide support to CMS end-users. Receive feedback from end users about bugs and/or new features. Develop code/web-parts necessary to fix problems with the CMS and create new components required to add new functionality and optimize end-user experience. Other duties as assigned

QULIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Graphic Design, Information Technology, Multimedia Design or related discipline required 1-2 years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • JavaScript/jQuery, CSS and JavaScript Frameworks, CSS preprocessing, Version Control/Git, Responsive Design, Testing/Debugging, Browser Developer Tools, Building and Automation Tools/Web Performance, Command Line required.
  • Detailed working knowledge and experience with JavaScript/jQuery, CSS and JavaScript Frameworks, CSS Preprocessing, Version Control/Git, Responsive Design, Testing/Debugging, Browser Developer Tools, Building and Automation Tools/Web Performance, Command Line, WYSIWIG editors, and other tools for building and managing websites required.
  • Experience with Adobe Creative Suite, Cascade or other CMS, XML, Apache Velocity, Video/Audio editing software, Windows all versions, and Macintosh preferred.
